Friday 19th May - walks **** Landguard Nature Reserve Circuit - cloudy morning turning sunny and warm.

Having learned from Mark, a windsurfing mate that a large fleet of yachts was heading out of the River Orwell this morning for the start of the North Sea Race to Holland so once again Mag and I headed down to Landguard Nature Reserve. We arrived just before nine but it was sadly cloudy today with the sun not appearing until lunch time, we took the same circular route spotting DFDS ferry head out with the usual bunnies running about. Then around to the view point where the large Goliath dredger was working near the shore filling the Pieter Caland moored alongside as the Stena ferry sailed passed. We sat on the small wooden pier waiting for the flotilla of yachts to appear with the first passing at 9.20, followed by a steady stream of yachts, 78 in all as they made their way motoring slowly out to the start line 2 miles offshore! It was an impressive to watch and we really enjoyed it, we then walked further and watched from the old pier at the end of Landguard where the yachts were even closer to the shore:) With most of the yachts now passed we continued our walk back to our van parked at The Manor end and got a good view of the start with loads of sails heading over the horizon, the breeze was fairly light at this point but the sun came out at lunch time and the breeze picked up so they had a good sail over I think! Home for breakfast and sort out my pics before lunch and do my exercises in the sunny back garden.
We now have a few days of breeze from the NE with tomorrow looking particularly promising, sunny too, can?t wait to get out on the water!
